Doe Security Clearance Requirements
Talked to a friend yesterday, and have a lead on a new job that is tempting me, but has one snag.
I'd need to qualify for an interim 'secret' clearance, under which I could work while a full clearance was processed.
I don't have a clearance at the moment, and the clearance itself is something I see as a huge benefit to the position, BUT.. I don't want to give notice at my current job, only to have something turn up that might disqualify me.
Here are the issues I've already thought of:
'¢ Weak credit. It's mostly in the past, slowly rebuilding now, but I still have a score slightly under 600. The only CURRENT issue there is an ongoing battle with the state of VA. In 1999, I moved from TN to VA. TN has no state income tax. VA tried to charge me for all income earned in TN on VA income tax.. been arguing with them over it ever since. About $1200 in question.
'¢ One episode of cheating in college. Don't know whether it helps or hurts, but was an episode where I turned myself in for cheating on a take-home exam.
'¢ Spent a considerable amount of time out of the country. This *shouldn't* hurt, but.. I grew up in S. America, so I've got years and years outside the US.
Anyone have any insight as to how those factors might affect the outcome of a secret clearance, and/or any other particular issues that could negatively affect my chances?
