My Cormorant is currently using 4 railguns and 1 launcher. Now I would like to install a 5th railgun but there is not sufficient powergrid. The engineering-skill is at level 4.
Which other skills (apart from engineering Lvl.5) could I train to increase the powergrid output. Will energy management help =
I understand that skills that decrease CPU-needs of modules will not affect this. I'm sorry but I have some problems to comprehend the exact connection between CPU and powergrid.

Look at the fitting options of some of your modules, possibly you can replace some with a different one that requires more cpu and less powergrid.
Otherwise you could drop a module and replace it with one that has similar bonuses.
Thrid option is always buying a cheaü hardwiring implant =)
Otherwise just do that grind for level 5, it will always be useful

Engineering 5 is only one step. The other ones are - power grid rig (Ancilary Current Router) and Weapons Upgrades + Advanced Weapon Upgrades skills (these will lower the cpu and grid requirements for turrets and launchers.

Are you sure about that ?
In the discription it says :
Weapon Upgrades Knowledge of gunnery computer systems, including the use of weapon upgrade modules. 5% reduction per skill level in the CPU needs of weapon turrets, launchers and smartbombs.
There is no hint to a reduction of powergrid requirements

Weapon Upgrades lowers the CPU needs, while Advanced Weapon Upgrades lowers the powergrid needs. Two different skills.

Thank you for your advice:
In the meantime I played with EFT and found out that if I kick out the Armor-repairer from the low slot and install a 'Miro Auxilary Powercore' I can temporarily solve the problem. I will skill Engineering and Jury Rigging as well to install a 'Small Ancillary Current Router'.
I also tried to replace the 105mm railguns by 125 mm rails but 4x150mm still make more damage than 5x125 mm rails.
PSI will also follow the hint to train Advanced Weapon Upgrades

Like 'Hardwiring - Inherent Implants 'Squire' GU2' ?
I found no description of what it exactly does in the database.

Be aware that rigs might be too expensive for you, however. In EFT, you can add the skill Engineering V to you character by pressing ctrl-c and editing his skills, or possibly by right-clicking where there are no modules in the 'module field'. Not sure about that one though, hence the bad explanation ;). Then you can check if you can fit it with your powergrid or not. Hope it helped a little bit. :)

this might be such a nub tip that I actually am wrong, but if you have any sort of shield recharger or extender you could look into skilling up some shield upgrades. It lowers PG also =)

'Squire' PG2, PG4, PG8 will boost your power grid 1%, 3% or 5%. The 5% implant needs cybernetics IV.
The other opsions have been addressed previously in the thread.

Just wondering, but does anyone know whether the two mentioned skills (Weapons upgrade and Advanced Weapons Upgrade) have effect on mining turrets? It says weapon turrets, so I guess not, but does anyone know for sure?

Mining lasers take up a turret hardpoint, but they're not affected by either Weapon Upgrades or Advanced Weapons Upgrades.
There's no skill that reduces CPU or PG usage of mining lasers, only reduce the additional CPU cost from mining laser upgrades.

Another option is trying to lower the powergrid requirements for your other modules. For example: Shield related skills could possibly reduce power requirements of shield boosters/extenders. Thus freeing up power to be used for your guns.
But still, grinding out Engineering 5 is will prove benefitial in the long run.
One skilling tactic I use is as follows. Have Engineering 5 in my training queue. Every evening while I'm playing I may run across some skill 'I just gotta have right now!' That skill might take a few minutes to an hour. (but less than a day). So I'll put that 'little skill' on the top of my training queue, bumping engineering 5 for a while. Eventually engineering 5 will complete, and it'll seem less painful, because in the meanwhile, I got these little skills to boot.

Im guessing the guns you are using are quite powerful due to the high PG needs. Yes you can have four big guns, however your DPS would probably be better with 7/8 smaller guns as they would actually be able to fit.

you can also use a Reactor Control Unit I (Low Slot)
as well as a Power Diagnostic System I (wich will also help with Shields) (also a Low Slot)

Using armour repairer on a Caldari ship?

I have 'perfect' fitting skills for guns, max grid, etc.
Cormorant with 7x 150mm Rail II's still needs a PG implant or MAPC.
But it sure can snipe like no other Dessie can -- 109km targeting range, Optimal + Falloff of 111 km. Only 72 dps and alpha of 274, but that's enough to make interceptors think twice about approaching.
Too bad it's a complete glass cannon:

Using armour repairer on a Caldari ship?

Actually is kind of useful. If looking to save some isk.chucking them on at a station after a bad mission (or bad skill at mission) gets you into armor. Mission would shield tanked of course unless trying to be different. Frigs and cruisers not so bad..drakes a bit pricey for armor repair though

If you mean 'are there any mid slot modules that'll give me extra Power Grid', no. Power Grid modules are low slots, like Power Diag Systems, Reactor Control Units or Micro Aux Power Cores. Engineering skill of course gives more Power Grid, 5% per level. Advanced Weapon Upgrades skill reduces the Power Grid costs for weapons as well. Welcome to fabulous penny slot machines. Increasing Powergrid (Author: Hazri)
Powergrid is the most important resource for a ship fitting. Quite a few ships have limited amount of it and need some skills and maybe even implants or special modules/rigs. In this paragraph are all ways to effectively increase the powergrid and open the way for better fittings. If you can't do some of the fittings from this site because of powergrid, you may need to check some of this options out.
First are all skills which directly or indirectly affects powergrid.
NameEffectInformation
Engineering+5% powergrid per levelvery highly recommended at 5
Shield Upgrades-5% powergrid need (per level) for modules which needs Shield Upgrades skill, mainly Shield Extenderrecommended at 4+
Advanced Weapon Upgrades-2% powergrid need (per level) for weaponsrecommended at 4+, this can make a huge difference

In the next 2 tables are modules which increase powergrid. All of them go into low-slots which is good because they don't comprise the buffer tank in the mid-slots. Nevertheless, you shouldn't use more than 1-2 of these, because they take away slots which should be used for dps or tracking modules.
NamePricePowergridCPUInformation
Reactor Control Unit II400k+15%20recommended
True Sansha Reactor Control Unit10-20M+15,5%20bit expensive, slightly better bonus

These modules offer less powergrid increase, but improve quite a few other parts as well, including shield capacity. If you only need a little kick in powergrid, try to fit one of these first before you go for a Reactor Control Unit.

Power Diagnostic System II600k5%5%8,5%5%20recommended
True Sansha Power Diagnostic System25-35M7,5%5%8,5%5%25bit expensive, better bonus

There are rigs as well, which increase powergrid. They may be preferred over modules and especially the T2 variants offer very good bonuses. Just remember, if you would need more than 1-2 of these, you might need to rethink your fitting because you are wasting too much slots. The good thing is, they don't have any drawback.

The last way to increase powergrid are implants. They are a very good idea and especially the +5% variant might be very handy, if you have several ships with small powergrid. The hardwiring goes into slot 6, which is used by cpu, cap recharge and cruise missile implants as well. If you don't want to use one of these, I really recommend to think about a powergrid hardwiring. There are 2%, 4% and 6% implants as well, but they need Concord LP points and aren't available in high numbers yet. If you have some spare LP from incursions and want to exchange them for one of the implants, feel free to do so.
